For diagnosing sciatica, we typically do a series of orthopedic and neurological tests during a patient’s exam. Also, we can take an x-ray of the patient if needed. Once we get all of that information, we try to figure out exactly why the patient is having the pain that they’re having – I call it doing my homework as a doctor. Those exams and the x-rays usually give us much more of a detailed idea of where they are at. Once we locate where the pressure is, where the pinched nerve is, we typically treat with adjustments and some light physical therapy – stretching, ice, some passive range of motion.
Sciatica, for the most part, is very treatable. We usually get fantastic results. I used to suffer from sciatic pain myself and chiropractic has helped me tremendously. Treatments can eliminate sciatica pain.
