To avoid back pain, everyone should try to strengthen your spinal discs. Here is what you can do! Chiropractors work with the vertebra and discs of your spine. Many people wait too long and eventually it may be too late.
Applied Kinesiology is a non-invasive way of evaluating structural, chemical and mental aspects of health. Treatment involves specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition, dietary management, counseling skills, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures. It’s really all encompassing.
What is the premise of Applied Kinesiology?
Dr. Chris Serafini: Great question. Applied Kinesiology is really a system that evaluates structural, chemical and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing combined with other standard methods of diagnosis. ‘AK’ is what we reference it for short. It’s a non-invasive system of really evaluating the body’s function. It’s really unique to the healing arts. It’s the use of manual muscle testing to evaluate body function through the dynamics of the musculoskeletal system.
How is muscle testing done and what is the process like?
Dr. Chris Serafini: Muscle testing is done the way it kind of sounds. You’re testing muscles so you need to find a strong muscle on the patient and then you perform certain tests or you test certain reflex points which then gives you information as to what functional issues the person may have.
What health conditions benefit the most from Applied Kinesiology?
Dr. Chris Serafini: This is a good question but it’s kind of hard to answer. There are many, many health conditions that really benefit from Applied Kinesiology. Once again, it’s a way to evaluate the function of the body through the musculoskeletal system and we’re trying to assess what functional issues they could possibly have. There’s many conditions which this comes into play. A lot of them, musculoskeletal pain kind of thing, shoulder pain, neck pain, back pain, knee pain but many other conditions as well. That’s pretty much the primary aspect that I use it for as a chiropractor.
What are the most common treatments used in Applied Kinesiology?
Dr. Chris Serafini: Treatment involves specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition, dietary management, counseling skills, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures. It’s really all encompassing. It really does give you a very comprehensive system of treatments.
Lastly, how has Applied Kinesiology helped to improve your patients’ overall health?
Dr. Chris Serafini: We reference this as the triad of health and the triad of health was really three basic causes of health problems. They’re basically structural, chemical and emotional with structure as the base of the triad. Literally all health problems, whether functional or pathological, are involved in one or all or parts of the triad. This really isn’t new to chiropractic. The founder of chiropractic, D.D. Palmer, referenced this many times in the origins of chiropractic. The determining cause of disease, once again, is structural, chemical or emotional. AK enables the doctor to evaluate the triad’s functional bounds in direct therapy toward the imbalance side or sides and doing so, this really just improves the patient’s overall health with, once again, the comprehensive system used with Applied Kinesiology.
