5 Things You Can Do to Stay Safe and Healthy at Work

  1. Understand office ergonomics. Try and use common sense to situate your workstation so it is most beneficial to you as the worker in front of it.
  2. Understand ergonomic injuries. What are the most common musculoskeletal problems that you can get from improper ergonomics?
  3. Identify your ergonomic challenges. Observe the office environment and tasks to identify potential issues. Conduct some sort of risk assessment on a routine basis. Find potential solutions.
  4. Set up your workstation. Set it up so that it ideally fits the worker to minimize any of the risk or issues that you could possibly have. “Eyes to the source, hands to input devices, feet to the floor, and bodies at chair.”
  5. Select the right equipment. There are certain types of equipment that can ultimately help tremendously. Your chair, adjustable workstations, keyboards, input devices, monitors, wrist pads, headrests, headsets, footrests, task lighting, laptops….choose these items with care and thought.

There are many, many different things that you can really optimize to reduce the risk.
